How to transition your summer capsule wardrobe pieces in to fall

“I always find beauty in things that are odd and imperfect, they are much more interesting.” —Marc Jacobs

In a couple of weeks, summer will be officially over, but that doesn’t mean that you have to change up your summer pieces for fall ones all that abruptly.

Here is a list of key tricks that will make the transition from summer to fall easy breezy.

  1. Tone down brights with black. I’ve always been a fan of the darker shades, they create some depth to those joyful summer dresses by pairing them dark blue and black sweaters or cardigans. Other deep colours work too, but there is realy no colour like black.
  2. You’ll still be able to wear sandals or open toe shoes for a while. Darker toned sandals are easily paired with fun socks, or just go without.
  3. Fall doesn’t mean you have to blend fall colours into your wardrobe. It all depends on your skin tone and the colours that look the best on you.
  4. Layering is a must here, chambray shirts are always a good choice, and so are leggings. Go the extra mile and layer layers, like a tee, a shirt, a sleeveless vest and a leather biker jacket and then add a fur collar to your jacket. Don’t worry, overdressed is not a real word anyway.
  5. Oversized layers. A beautiful long cozy, boyfriend cardigan always does the trick to add warmth to a summer dress, but it’s even better over a structured jeans and plain t-shirt.
  6. Ankle boots look super cool under a skirt or dress, even without the leggings.
  7. Pair your summer items with monochromes. Tight fit turtle necks come in handy to wear under a slip dress. A blue trench is so easy to wear over.
  8. Always visualise how you’re going to wear a certain piece after that particular season it’s meant for, is over. Think of at least 2 or 3 different ways to combine that piece.
  9. A blazer or trench makes an instant chique look in no time.
  10. Pair your summer skirt with a cozy knit an fall accesories.
  11. One word: Over the knee boot. Ok, that’s four. This boot takes any dress from summer to fall, add a belt and you’re ready to go.
  12. Combine your cropped jacket with a wrap scarf. Excellent to disappear in to when talking to a rather boring person. Or for your fist day back at work.
  13. Combine your light ripped summer denim with darker colours like a dark green.
  14. Create an interesting new outfit with your cropped pants by adding longer layers, like again, a long boyfriend cardigan or a trench for fall.
  15. Mix rougher looking clothes like cargo pants or athleisure with more feminine looking items and high heels.
  16. Wear your crop top over a turtle neck and top it of with a felt cap.
  17. Jumpsuits and dresses go perfectly with a bomber.
  18. Ad a Chelsea boot to your cropped pants.
